It is with great sadness we inform you that Keith Burdett, Chair of the Board of Trustees, has passed away. Keith was the heart and soul of Independent Options and a vital part of the organisation.Keith joined Independent Options in 1986 as a board member and went on to become the Chair of the Board of Trustees in November 1992. He was totally committed to the organisation and the people and families that we support. The role of Chair is a difficult one but Keith knew just how much to get involved, and when to step back. Keith always got it perfect. Once everyone had agreed a course of action, he would step back and let the paid professionals get on with their job, while offering his enthusiastic support.Throughout his time with Independent Options he always involved himself in every aspect of the organisation to ensure that he understood and that the quality of service was up to his expectations. He supported every fundraising or staff presentation event possible and immersed himself in the ethos of the organisation. What mattered to him most was what happened to the disabled people and their families receiving support from Independent Options. Keith was instrumental in moving the organisation forward from “The Pines Holiday Home”; a one site Short Breaks service, to the innovative and extensive organisation that we are today.Keith was planning to retire this summer at the AGM after 20 years as the Chair of the Board of Trustees and we had planned to celebrate his achievements at this AGM.We will now celebrate his achievements, dedication and loyalty to the organisation at our AGM on Saturday 4th August 2012.
