Independent Options is delighted to be in with a chance of winning a £5,000 grant from the Aviva Community Fund, which will enable us to start dance classes at our Children and Family Centre, but we need your votes to help us win!

5796cd9b0b6fad85351e8d4a2ea5db0cDance is a great form of exercise and can significantly help with building muscle and developing balance. For children with disabilities this can be extremely important in their physical development. It also provides much needed social experiences and opportunities for friendships to be built outside of school. With this in mind, we want to start dance classes for children with learning disabilities, aged 5-13.

A grant would allow us to hire a professional dance teacher who has experience and understanding of learning disabilities. We envisage that the classes would be shorter in length than a mainstream class, and the teaching style would be adaptable and flexible to the needs of the children attending.

The main focus of the classes would be to learn some new dance moves and have fun! There would be no pressure for individuals to work towards exams or grades.
