The Housing Independence Support Team (HIST) is funded by Supporting People. This is a unique service for vulnerable people who require housing related support in Stockport. (We do not have any of our own accommodation). The service provides individually tailored support packages for adults who have a learning disability or mental health need who have offended or are at risk of offending. We provide floating support which means this can increase or reduce depending on the person's needs from week to week. We review the support that people receive at least every six months. We can support people for a maximum of two years. Our aim is for people to live independently without support. However, if people still need support after two years we will refer them onto another agency.

Due to the nature of the funding the support is housing related. This can include completing housing applications, benefits applications, budgetting, setting up utilities, household skills and dealing with correspondence. Once people are settled in their accommodation we can help them to look for daytime occupation to avoid meeting with people who could lead them to further offending. We work in partnership with other agencies including Community Alcohol Team (CAT) and the Probation service. People can refer themselves directly or be referred by a professional. To make a referral please contact Housing Support Point, telephone 0161-474-3719 or email housingsupportpoint@stockporthomes.org For a poster on the service click here
