Supported Living

Supported Living provides 24-hour support to people with complex needs who are living in their own homes, either living alone or sharing with other people. Support is person-centred and individually tailored so that people are able to enjoy their homes, be a valued member of their community, develop their skills and be as independent as possible. The people we work with, and their families, have a leading role in all aspects of their bespoke service including recruiting the staff who will be supporting them in their homes.

How we provide support

Funding and Budgets

If you or a family member have been assessed by your local council as having an eligible need, you may be assessed for a personal budget (or ‘individual budget’). Your personal budget is a pot of money that is separate from any benefits you may receive and is allocated to fund your support.

Planning your support

Independent Options can also help you to create an outcome focused Support Plan, which will outline how you plan to spend your money, what your goals are and what support you need in order to accomplish those aspirations. We will refer back to this regularly to make sure that you’re achieving what you would like to.

Living with others

Independent Options offers a bespoke service tailored to meet individuals’ needs. We can support people to meet other prospective tenants who wish to share a home to enable them to live with people of similar ages, interests and personalities. Independent Options can help you to facilitate this process, and we ensure you always have the final say on who you live with.

Finding a property

Independent Options will always work in close consultation with you about your housing options and you will always be involved in the decision making about the property you choose to live in. We work closely with housing associations, including Care Housing Association, to provide accessible, high quality, and sustainable housing options. Adaptions will be made to the property to ensure it is tailored to each individuals’ needs, including modifications that are completed to a high standard.

Kevin's Story

Kevin uses Independent Options’ Short Breaks service. His Mum, Jude, tells of how the experience has helped her family.

“Having a disabled child totally changes the dynamics of family life. With all the meetings, hospital appointments and such it can be draining on everyone. When Kevin is at Hallfield guest house I am safe in the knowledge that he is with staff who genuinely care. I also know that he always has a great time and he can do what he chooses to do safely – and without his Mum there too! To have this service is so valuable as it gives me as a parent that time to do things I can’t when Kevin is at home, and I don’t feel guilty leaving him because I know that he really enjoys his time there with the staff and other guests.

“I adore my son and would not change him or his disability as then that would not be Kevin, but to have these respite breaks is wonderful for both of us as it means that I can recharge my batteries too. A service like the one offered through Independent Options is genuinely priceless.”
